Frequently Asked Questions

What sets you apart from other therapists?

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia, I combine a strong background in psychology with evidence-based approaches to help clients create meaningful, lasting change.

  • Trauma-focused expertise: I specialize in EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a proven method for healing from trauma, anxiety, and distressing experiences.

  • Somatic and body-based approaches: I integrate somatic therapy into my work, helping clients tune into the wisdom of the body and release patterns of stress or trauma held physically.

  • IFS-informed practice: I am completing certificate training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, which supports clients in exploring different parts of themselves with compassion.

  • Compassionate, non-judgmental approach: I provide a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and respected.

Rather than focusing only on short-term goals, I work with you to uncover and transform the deeper patterns and beliefs that may be holding you back.

Are your counselling services covered by insurance?

Many extended health benefit plans in Canada cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). Because coverage varies between providers, please confirm directly with your insurance company to see if your plan includes RCCs in British Columbia.

What can I expect during a consultation?

Your consultation will take place online (via a secure video link) or by phone if you prefer. During this time:

  • We’ll explore what brings you to counselling and what kind of support you’re looking for.

  • You’ll have the opportunity to ask me questions about my approach.

  • I’ll share ideas for how we might work together and what next steps could look like.

This is a collaborative, no-pressure space to see if we’re a good fit.

What can I expect during my first counselling session?

Before your first session, you’ll receive a secure video link. In session, we’ll focus on:

  • Understanding your unique story and what brings you to therapy.

  • Exploring your goals, challenges, and hopes for counselling.

  • Answering any questions you may have about the process.

Whether you’re seeking trauma counselling, EMDR therapy, anxiety and stress support, help with relationships, or understanding attachment this is your time to feel supported and begin your healing journey.

What if I can’t find an appointment time?

If you don’t see a time that works for you, please reach out to me directly at robynbrysoncounselling@gmail.com. Together we’ll do our best to find a time that fits your schedule. You can also book a consultation to discuss options.

What if I am not in BC?

You don’t need to live in British Columbia to work with me. I offer online counselling across Canada, making therapy accessible wherever you are located.

Counselling is not yet regulated in several provinces, including:

  • Manitoba

  • Prince Edward Island (PEI)

  • Nova Scotia

  • New Brunswick

  • Newfoundland and Labrador

  • The Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut

Because counselling is unregulated in these regions, you are free to choose the professional who feels like the best fit. Many clients in these provinces appreciate the flexibility of working with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in BC through secure virtual sessions.

Areas I specialize in include:

  • EMDR therapy for trauma and post-traumatic stress

  • Burnout and stress management

  • Relationship and attachment issues

  • Self-esteem, self-compassion and personal growth

Insurance coverage

Some extended health benefit plans cover sessions with an RCC even if you live outside BC. Since coverage differs by provider, please check with your insurance company to confirm whether RCCs are included in your plan.
